May 25, 2016 by Mai Pacheco

Hi All, Last week, the latest news about Monica was rough. She was called into the oncologists office, and told that she has been upgraded to high risk status and the cancer is back and aggressive. She is trying to be positive and asking us to do the same. She asks for us to consider blood, platelet, and marrow donations, for herself and others if we can, and add her and her family to your daily prayers and thank you for sending gift cards and meals. Let's keep them coming when we can. God Bless,...

latest caring bridge update 4/2016

MP

April 22, 2016 by Mai Pacheco

By Laura Salle - 5 days ago I left the house in the middle of the night with a fever of 102. I spent 2 weeks at uwmc with fevers of 102 to 103 degrees. This was a tough 2 weeks with ice packs on my head, under my arms and packed on my legs. I had 5 liters of oxygen to keep my O2 Levels up adequately. I underwent multiple procedures that I don't care to repeat. My cell counts finally started to come up and my fevers started to decline. I was finally allowed to go home. Now at home I am happy to hear the thud of my son jumping out of bed in the morning and him saying "where is mom?" and I get to answer. We celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary by watching The Princess Bride. As you wish. I am fatigued. My friend takes me to the doctor's office for fluids and blood draws. I'm pushing around my walker and sit when I'm tired. My mom got me a nice recliner and I'm thankful for that. I get to relax on it and sometimes fall asleep. My bald head sticks to the headdress. My appetite is not great, I'm doing my best to drink my fluids. I'm trying to find protein drinks to give me a boost. I am scheduled to have one more round of chemo. I pray to God that I can make it. I'm so warn out. I don't know that I have it in me. I wish I could say I miss the people at work, I do, but I've been so focused on staying alive for my family I haven't had time to think about work. I was blessed to have some family and friends come see me during this difficult stay in the hospital. Some high school classmates were an absolute joy to have visit. I appreciate their company, their help, the laughs. Keep the prayers coming. I feel like I need them more than ever. Monica...

meal train slots open

MP

February 29, 2016 by Mai Pacheco

Hello (plenty of open spots on the meal train available) idea: consider Meals or blood/platelet donations as great Lenten alms giving options. Literally saves lives, including Monica's. below is a cut and paste from Monica's post on caring bridge. It's been some time since I have written. I'm happy to say once I arrived home it's been pretty much uneventful. Tshirts arrived and are being distributed. I need to put in another order this week. It's fun to see the support. I'm actually pleased that the leukemia color is orange; it's my son's favorite color, it's bright, and it makes me smile. My numbers (RBCs, ANC, & platelets) have not rebounded as quickly as they did after my first treatment. I had the fever in the middle of recovery, so my hope is that the fever stalled my marrow progress. Next round I'm hoping for a faster rebound, no fevers, and a piece of cake recovery. (I'm channeling my aunt here!!) I've been blessed in so many ways. I have a long time family friend who has been schlepping me to appointments and around town. Girl Scout cookies, popcorn, teas, prayer time, helpful neighbors, text messages, cards, phone calls, meals, coloring books, etc. are just some of the things that people have sent me. I appreciate it all. to see continued post find Monica Salle-Ilacqua on caringbridge.org....
