He was a great friend and mentor who encouraged me to go to California to continue learning about conservation in national parks and the Forest Service. I loved us talking about film and his advice on cameras. I can never repay him for doing my grad photos as well, and I dreamed of coming home for him to do my master's degree photos. I was lucky to call him my friend. I'm sorry for not being able to be there.

I recently met Garrett when he stopped to photograph the cigar shop in San Marcos. We quickly bonded over our shared love for analog/film photography along with unique subjects of focus we shared. He got me more excited about getting back into film photography than I’ve been in decades, and I plan on keeping that promise I made to him to pick it back up again after putting it down for so long. I enjoyed his company and brief friendship immensely and will hold a place in my heart for him as I commit to reintroducing myself to that craft that he loved so much.
