My first few days as a Zamboni driver, Rick was the one who taught me the nuances behind operating the Zam. Our boss always said “you aren’t a driver, you’re an operator,” because of how much finesse you need on the machine in order to make good ice. Rick embodied this, always trying to find new tricks and subtleties to his makes whenever he went out. He shared with me all that he learned when driving the Zam contributing a great deal to my development on the Zamboni. After the ice make he always had great stories of his time working at Blue Arena, as well as his firefighting days. For all that he’s done for me in the short time that I’ve know him, I extend my deepest and most sincere condolences. And to Rick, I hope you don’t get too tired on your way too meet god.
